UrbEd Names Four College Students as Scholarship Winners
PHILADELPHIA, PA – On December 1, 2022, UrbEd Inc. awarded four $500 Scholarships to graduates of the School District of Philadelphia. UrbEd is a youth-run, youth-lead organization, founded by high school students in 2016, that advocates for quality, efficient, and equitable public school education in the city of Philadelphia. Over the last six years, UrbEd has been a leader in advocating for student voice, while giving students the tools they need to successfully stand up for themselves and their peers.
The Reimagine Scholarship aims to aid former School District of Philadelphia students afford a portion of their post secondary education. When the application cycle is in session, all former SDP students who have sought education beyond high school are encouraged to apply, no matter where they currently attend school (e.g. community college, university, trade school, etc.). UrbEd strongly believes that all students deserve the right to receive an affordable quality education, even if they do not embark on a “traditional path”.

Gabrielle Neal
Junior, Health Sciences - PreNursing

“My name is Gabrielle Neal and I am from Philadelphia.I am currently a junior health science major on the pre nursing track at the #1 HBCU, Spelman College. Currently, I am the treasurer for AUC Philly Club which strives to promote unity among those from Philadelphia in the AUC as well as give back to the Philadelphia community.”

“Chandler Toppin is a graduating senior Psychology major with a concentration in neuroscience attending Spelman College. Chandler has dedicated her scholarship to prepare myself in her initiatives to ameliorate the quality of life of others. She currently serves as the publicity chair for the student organization GRL PWR. An on-campus program designed by a fellow peer to help transform the mental health, physical health, and academic success of underprivileged students in the Atlanta area. Also she currently participates in the intern program for TheraPink for Girls. TheraPink for Girls is a non-profit organization for school aged girls. The program aims to bring mental health awareness to this population while engaged in candid conversations through healthy girl talk. Chandler wished to cultivate her own organization dedicated to mental and physical health disparities of African-American communities that will educate and alleviate issues for the overall betterment of society.“
